The
New Earth
premiered April 20, 21, 22, 2006 during Earth Week at Zoellner
Arts Center’s Diamond Theater at Lehigh University.
This theatrical production included a cast of thirty-five
professional and local actors and dancers (including Broadway,
Off-Broadway), a live music ensemble including world renowned
musician, River
Guerguerian, a martial arts battle sequence, and
set design created by renowned visual artist Salma
Arastu .
The play
was written to ignite hearts and inspire action towards environmental
sustainability. The project benefited the community by serving
as a catalyst and inspiration for galvanizing action towards
a healthier community and a healthier planet.
A
warm thank you to everyone who helped make The New Earth
production such a success. the performers and designers were
extraordinary, the sponsor support was profound, and the community
involvement, from the talk back facilitators, to the tote
bag makers, the community citizens who came on stage, the
parents of the children working backstage, the organizations
who set up booths in the lobby, the farmers and chefs who
created the reception, ( I could keep going here!) was awe-inspiring.
The time, talents and resources of over a hundred people went
into this production and we are deeply grateful. Truly a community
event, 625 people attended The New Earth and ever since, the
response has been awesome.
Thanks
for your enthusiastic emails, letters and phone calls, and
your commitments to take care of this incredible planet we
call home. Can theatre transform a community? We proved together
that it can!
